Southern Polytechnic State University and Art Institute of Atlanta are happy to be a host site for GGJ 2010. The School of Computing and Software Engineering welcomes you to join us for this fun and exciting event! This is one of many activities sponsored by the games.spsu.edu group at SPSU.
Game jams foster innovation and experimentation. If you have ever wanted to make a game, be a part of a team, go outside of your usual working method, then a game jam is for you. In a unified game jam you are a part of a global experiment in creativity.
The Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the first of its kind: a game jam that takes place in the same 48 hours all over the world! The Global Game Jam will start at 5:00PM Friday, January 29, 2010 through 3:00PM Sunday, January 21, 2010, (all times local). All participants in the Global Game Jam will be constrained by the same rules and limitations, with each time zone having one distinct constraint.
Everyone meets at their local game jam on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 5:00pm. Local organizers will then share the constraints and rules for the game jam. Everyone will have 15 minutes to come up with a pitch and then share it with the group. Teams will then be formed, no one leaves until everyone is a part of a team. Teams are free to use the space at the host venue. Each team will have until 3:00PM on Sunday, January 31st to create their game. The local jurors will then go around and play all the games and at 5:00pm, each team will present their game to all participants. Each Local Jam will announce what team best embodies the spirit of the jam.
All finished games will be archived onto the Global Game Jam website for all to play.
Anyone 18 years and older can participate in a game jam, experienced professionals, students and wannabes. You do not have to form teams to participate; teams will be formed at each of the local jams.
SPSU will make computer labs and work (and crash) space available for participants all weekend. You are welcome to bring your own rig, but our computer labs will have the following:
The rules of the GGJ preclude you from using pre-made content
(this includes program code, audio, graphics, models, etc.) unless it was
publicly available at least a month prior to the GGJ. The idea is that we
want to see what people can create within the 48 hours. If you have any
questions about the appropriateness of content/code, please email
prior to the GGJ.
We will also have:
Additionally, there are many local eateries and many that deliver to SPSU campus, and we provide a list of these restaurants.
To register, send your name and other contact info (email, phone#, address, etc.) to Jon Preston (jpreston [at] spsu [dot] edu) with the subject “GGJ Registration”. Registration is $25 payable early or at the door. Since space is limited, participants are accepted first-come-first-served when registration fee is paid.
Participants will get a T-shirt, food, snacks, and other swag compliments of our sponsors. Prizes will also be awarded.
Please
